Ion trapping setup

This site presents some of the researches performed in the Atomic Particle Trapping and Frequency Standards Group from the Natl. Inst. for Laser, Plasma and Radiation Phys. (INFLPR)

Our research activity is aimed towards:
  1. trapped ion physics and applications
  2. plasma physics and plasma discharges
  3. hydrogen maser frequency standards
  4. quantum optics

Our researches spread over a wide range of interests, such as :
  • classical and semiclassical dynamics of atomic particles confined in electrodynamic traps
  • design of new trap geometries with an aim to enhance the signal-to noise ratio
  • study of parasitic effects (stray potentials and contributions of higher order terms in the series expansion of the trap electric potential)
  • high-precision spectroscopy with ions in Paul traps
  • trapping of electrons in Penning traps
  • novel methods for ion generation and ion detection
  • study of non-classical states of motion
  • analytical and numerical simulations of the processes described
  • design and test of experimental setups for microparticle trapping under standard temperature and pressure conditions
